What is couture?

Couture is the art of the finest hand sewing. A couture garment is:

  • Created especially for an individual

  • Precisely fitted

  • Finished with luxurious details

  • Made from the finest fabrics

How much time is needed to create the gown of my dreams?
Generally, 6 months notice is the minimum needed.  Depending on the complexity of the design and the number of clients in progress at the time, the time could be more or less.  One year is not too soon to arrange for your garment to be made.

How does this work?
I work with each client to design the dress of her dreams.  Many fabrics are in stock and I provide access to hundreds of swatch samples of quality fabrics to choose from.  Before cutting into the chosen fabric, and sometimes even before choosing the fabric, a muslin fit garment is made.  This allows adjustments to be made to fit and style without damaging the more costly silks and laces.  This helps us know that the style is the look we want and review design choices before the commitment to the finished product.

Do you do alterations?
No, I only accept commissions for true couture, special occasion garments.
Do you make veils and matching accessories?

I make veils of all sorts.   I can design a veil to your specifications, in a unique style to compliment your dress or one appropriate for your wedding theme.

Today a veil is not just a veil but a hair accessory to make the "Here comes the bride" statement.  I'm always happy to create your unique headpiece using fabrics and trims to match your custom gown.  I also stock various tiaras.

I love to create coordinated purses to complete the couture look and I've been known to embellish your own dyed-to-match shoes!

How much does a couture design cost?

Each design is priced based on the cost of materials and the time to design and create the finished garment.  Details such as multiple layers, draped features, beading or lace applique require more time and thus increase the price.

  • Wedding gowns start at $3000.00

  • Mother's dresses start at $1500.00

Will I know how much my dress will be in advance?
Yes, once a design is approved, the price on the work agreement you'll be asked to sign, is a quote, not an estimate.  Design changes may incur additional charges but you would know that as soon as the change was added to your work agreement.
How will I pay you?
The standard payment schedule is a 50% deposit to begin, 25% after the muslin is complete and the final 25% at delivery.  Most clients pay by check.  I also accept credit cards through Paypal.
Do you have references I can talk to?
Absolutely!  When you call or come for your consultation, just ask for the names and numbers of many satisfied brides and mothers.
What are your hours?
By appointment to fit your schedule
